naming names

when i start to think along the lines of a new name..i look at the pieces in the collection and start to think about the feelings that they evoke.

so for example..we designed a new candy stripe in a pink/grey combo, and one in a yellow/grey combo.

i know i go on about stripes endlessly, and often my fave to wear is the  classic chanel bateau navy and white style,

but!  the new pattern is not that at all..it is far more frothy..kind of like spumoni..which is italian..which makes me think about all the wonderful stripey beach cabanas that one sees along the coast in Italia..hence the new name for our stripe collection will be...Capri Stripe!

next up ..we have a new Ikat that is very ethnic and chic..which reminded me of early bohemians..crossed with the fabulous Mac II ladies Mica and Chessy (helloooo turbans!)

i struggled/am struggling with this one more than the others..as it is trickier.

 

the vibe is boho/bold in classic color combos

the Brandolini Ikat?  Chelsea?  Mayfair?

I am leaning towards..Hoxton Ikat.  You?

I will definitely need a big vaca after this..perhaps to Southhampton..for which we have named our new take on the classic Links pattern.  The new Southhampton Link has a tonal interior, rather than the earlier incarnation that was a contrasting interior..wait til you see!

off to the mountains

we are headed off on our winter holiday to go skiing, and i wanted to kvetch a while to y'all..because i haven't a thing to wear!! so upsetting. in my mind, i will look like mrs. kennedy.
but in reality, i am afraid i will be resembling our friends in the photo above. wahhh! i have my old faithful 60's red ski hat..check! my moth eaten cashmere sweaters..check! the matching hole filled black cashmere scarf..check! and some scary fiber unknown, practically plastic grey slacks from banana republic in the 90's that seems to wick away the water..and i pretend are hip vintage skiwear..check!
maybe i need this stuff! check!
right?
i mean..would it hurt anyone if i had a much deserved little chanel shopping spree? a girl's gotta look the part if she wants to shuss with pride..right?

logos

i spent time this week looking at the David Hicks: Designer book, , and learned (once again i am the last to get this!) that his iconic print is 4 "H"'s coming together to form an ingenious geometric. as a big fan of geometrics, and a giant naysayer of the ubiquitous logomania that envelopes the world of fashion and design..i am a latecomer to the idea of putting a big fat "J" all over my work..but i am seriously considering making the move. hmm. i do hate myself for loving those darn goyard bags.
color me quizzical, but i am starting to think this is the next big thing for us over at JR designworld headquarters. stay tuned for updates.
