marimekko!

the other day i wandered over to newbury street and finally wandered into the new marimekko store!

for me..marimekko has always been major..for more reasons than one.

can you say striped shirts and bold color?

j'adore!  and the new store did not disappoint..i loved the whole loud story.

and felt immediately like making a purchase..so much color and fun and happiness all in one place!

everything was displayed with brilliance and ingenuity..though i was not sure i understand those clothes..but perhaps if i was a tad over 5'1" i might..

the beds were sooo smashing, and somehow cozy at the same time..so many fun textiles from which to choose.

i believe the one above is vintage..soo cool..and the dress below is new..

i can't wait to go back there and get some new marimekko..on the list is certainly a few of the classic striped shirts..a couple of pillows for our place..and maybe a bean bag chair for my son..

donna gorman [see design]

i love getting packages..and today we received one from our friend and fellow designer donna gorman.

she sent us 2 blouses from her fun and colorful collection that she shows at the gift show (right down the row from our booth)

from the looks of these pix from her website, it looks like donna does a bit of decorating with her things at her vacation home in puerto rico. you can see the influence of her former employer marimekko in all that she does..and i love the playful spirit of her designs.

i can't live without her stuff.
in fact the big bag pictured above with the hunter boots belongs to me!

marimekko orgy!

i was in harvard square yesterday during the wildness that was Oktoberfest, and my heart skipped a beat when i walked past the old crate and barrel store ( a classic ben thompson structure a mass of concrete and glass), and saw that it had been transformed into an orgy of vintage marimekko. it couldn't have been a more brigadoon moment when for a moment i thought a new store had opened with these things for sale. well, no such luck.! i have so much nostalgia for these wonderful lively prints that have been a huge influence on my design oevre.
