SPLIT [becky's online mag]

one of my absolute favorite humans is my friend rebecca lown..graphic designer extrordinaire, and developer of splitmag..which is her weekly newsletter for separated and/or divorced people.

rebecca is one of the original renaissance women..she has taken on everything from emt class..to cake decorating! she is the author of several amazing "art books", the mother of two fab kids, and she throws a mean channukah party! recently she created the split newsletter to speak to the lighter side of breaking up..never shmoopy..her posts always feature some way to have a little fun. this week i loved learning about alikewise a dating site that puts singles together based on their taste in literature..i mean..c'mon..that is g-e-n-i-u-s!!

rosenworld

i just discovered laurie rosenwald this weekend, and so i thought i would share this marvelous illustrator/graphic designer/comedienne on my blog. now that i think about it, i can't believe that i hadn't discovered her sooner. especially given that her work is so idiosyncratic, and that we share an unusual surname. after hunting around her site i discovered that her claim to fame is a work shop that she runs called "mistakes on purpose". it looks like she takes this act all over the world to different corporations, teaching teams of people the power mistakes can have. this is something i have always subscribed too, noting that many of my best designs are a result of accidents made while sketching.

this is a video of laurie's collage work with a reading by david sedaris (also a big fave). note: the video takes 30 seconds to load, but it is worth the wait.
