element s(urvival coat

veronika scott detroit design student has designed (with support from carhart) a coat that is made from recycled tyvek. It is self heated, waterproof, and transforms into a sleeping bag at night.
the idea is that it will be made by homeless people for homeless people or those at risk around the world. she says that the cost per coat is @ $35, but it will be free for those who need it. love.

jill rosenwald rugs part 4

surya just sent me the last of the rug designs for this season, and they really have not given me a heads up as to when the rugs aqre coming out for the public. the more that you all let them know that you want them though..i think the faster we'll see them in the market.
so let me know your reaction to all of the ones i have posted in the past week or so..and i will give them your feedback. i want to know which ones are the faves..which are the not so faves..and which are the out and out duderoonies!
i know it is very hard to post on my blog..so email me if you would like. at jillrosenwald@gmail.com that way i will get a feel for what direction we should take.
this red one is amazing right?
the little ones are just the color sample size, and will be made in the bigger size if people like them.

i think the black here is killer..very americana.

all saints spitalfields

a while back we lost our pottery barn to a clothing store called all saints. the front window took my breath away because it had a lit up grid of gorgeous old singer sewing machines. brilliant!
as many stores do, they left their front doors wide open, but the greyed out industrial vibe did not call out to my color infused sensibilities. so much greyish blackish dirtyish stuff i thought..not for jill. but oh how wrong i was!
saturday afternoon i darkened their door for the first time, and oh what lovlies were revealed to me! the store is very conceptual, and it does not veer away for a second from the concept which is extremely filmic, and had me wondering whether a costume designer who had perhaps worked on everything from mad max, and brazil, to a slew of dickens flix like nicholas nickelby was responsible for this line of clothes!
everything from the interior of the store to each garment of clothing is infused with a very specific aesthetic that is silvered, tough, sexy, industrial, military, british-y. there are tons of details sewn into each garment that make them at once uptight yet they are super throwaway casual at the same time. if you check out their jeans they are a wonderful (japanese denim?) fabric in a truly desirable shade of blue/grey/silver/black? t shirts are deconstructed , and sort of hard to figure out how to wear..but i loved it all..and i cannot wait to go back!

rugs part 3

it looks to me like surya had a field day making samples for my new rug collection..because i just got this morroccan tile rug group today..and i am going bonkers!
these ought to satisfy those of you who were crushed to see the west elm rug disappear.
here is a fern green color that rocks..right?

annd i am dying over the combo of the dijon with the greige.
the chocolate is a classic that will go anywhere.
and here is the greige dijon in the reverse combo. lots to love.

fiorentini and baker

i thought that i was done with boots, but as it turns out i am not. perhaps it is just that i wear boots every day in the colder months..which right about now feels like all the months because we are headed into 5 more months of boot weather! or perhaps it is simply that when you see something swoonworthy that is made with care and great attention to detail, you need to sit up and take notice.
the other night, i was at my trunk show at the Hudson store in wellesley( where by the way every girl was wearing knee high or higher low heeled boots..what's going on?), and a client walked in wearing a tall over the knee brown leather boot that had a short tie up the back and a side zip. these had the perfect combo of girly and throwaway that i adore. really anal without being fussy superbness.
well, wouldn't you know they are fiorentini and baker (never heard of them) from barneys! oh..double oy!
these babies run over $500..so if you have the shekels lying around i suggest you run..don't walk over to your local barneys shoppe, and grab a pair. i imagine with the recession on and everything they are probably flying off the shelves.
my only problem now is that i cannot for the life of me figure out how many pairs i need!
maybe something with a heel?
this is the pair the client wore..loooove.
and i love how comfy these would be at the studio. wish me luck.

more rugs from surya

yesterday, i got more of the rug images from India..and again..i am too thrilled. not to toot my own horn, but seeing a drawing is one thing, and finally seeing an actual rug from a simple jpeg is an entirely different experience altogether! i think they are brilliant, and i love them all. how to pick just one? the slate-y blue below is stunning..no?
black is sexy..
i am wondering if this is a sky blue..different than the one above..i believe it is.
always classic..we call this color jcrew!
pale tan..also simple and elegant.
i had missed this one below yesterday..but i j'adore it!

new hexagon rugs

i just got these images from my rug partner Surya who decided to take my feedback and make some flatweaves from my newest designs. i have been completely floored by how much i love these. how would you decide which one to get..they are all so fun!
this green and blue is killer!
i have always loved this gold mist and chocolate combo..right?
and this one is whisper great too. oh apologies for the yucky images..but they are all i have right now.

new boots found!

i am very excited to report that after much fuss i have found my new boots, and i loooove them.
they are the Caleb by La Canadienne and i got them on sale at Lord and Taylor last night.
they are very me..good for walking, waterproof, a little butch, and a bit femme all mixed together.
i tried on a pair of brown ones too that featured a gold zipper and 3 golden buckles (oo fancy!) but i fear that i would have tired of all the bells and whistles very quiclkly. i know i am impossible to please, but i believe i have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow here. wish me luck!
