crush on maira kalman
last week i bought the new maira kalman book as a channukah "gift" for my daughter..but we all know it was really for moi.
what can i say..move over tara donovan as my imaginary best friend, and helloooo maira!
this book "the pursuit of happiness" is maira's exploration of american history, and america from her visits to washington dc, monticello, Ft. campbell Ky, and other sights maira thought were interesting.
she is a marvelous painter with the most touching and insightful perspectives, i could not put her book down.
i think maira was genuinely shocked at how exciting and interesting she found america and her people, and her enthusiasm was infectious.
most certainly this book is on the top of my gift guide list. so run don't walk!

a chorus line doc
we saw a chorus line when i was a kid, and it was heart stoppingly wonderful..this is a new documentary about the process of putting a revival back on the stage, and how it came to be in the first place.

element s(urvival coat
veronika scott detroit design student has designed (with support from carhart) a coat that is made from recycled tyvek. It is self heated, waterproof, and transforms into a sleeping bag at night.
the idea is that it will be made by homeless people for homeless people or those at risk around the world. she says that the cost per coat is @ $35, but it will be free for those who need it. love.

jill rosenwald rugs part 4
surya just sent me the last of the rug designs for this season, and they really have not given me a heads up as to when the rugs aqre coming out for the public. the more that you all let them know that you want them though..i think the faster we'll see them in the market.
so let me know your reaction to all of the ones i have posted in the past week or so..and i will give them your feedback. i want to know which ones are the faves..which are the not so faves..and which are the out and out duderoonies!
i know it is very hard to post on my blog..so email me if you would like. at jillrosenwald@gmail.com that way i will get a feel for what direction we should take.
this red one is amazing right?
the little ones are just the color sample size, and will be made in the bigger size if people like them.
i think the black here is killer..very americana.
