here is the second image from our spring 2010 collection. this one has a strong suzani vibe that has been so hot for the past few seasons. i am loving the navy backgrounds on these pieces..it is a color i have hardly ever used and to me it is so refreshingly bold.

sportello
one of the greatest things about having a studio here in fort point channel is the fact that we have some great spots where we can go to get yummy treats..I mean what beats a latte and a croissant with homemade preserves from sportello? nothing.

skating at the frog pond
yesterday we had the unique pleasure of skating on the Frog Pond on Boston Common found smack dab in the center of the city. Not only is it an incredible bargain, (free for kids and 5 dollars for adults), but they make it so easy with rentals right there at the rink and snacks available also at very reasonable prices. don't let a long line intimidate you as it moves along pretty quickly, and you can send the kids next door to the playground while you wait on line listening to the fun music from the 80's and 90's. what a great asset in the center of our city!

perch design
i discovered perch through domino magazine a fewyears ago when i saw their fantastic basket design. i made a rediscovery this week when i was nominated along with 50 or so of my fellow ceramicists for a Poppy award..check out some cool pottery through all of Poppytalk's great finds.

rodarte
the mulleavy sisters are an interesting pair. they make objects of desire that have left the fashion world a bit discombobulated. anna wintour love love loves them..and that can't hurt. i can't tell whether i like the clothing to wear it or to hang it, but most certainly it is different than what has come before. i am particularly fond of the tribal style arm tatoos the girls have chosen to decorate their models with.

Brilliant Rug Design
my kids discovered the spanish rug company Gan when we participated at the ICFF in new york last may. i have been drooling over them ever since. today i thought i would share them with you as a cozy winter treat. i am particularly loving the amazingly chic photos.
Tom Ford Movie Maker
i have always been a tom ford fan ever since he channelled the Halston look of studio 54 and changed Gucci forever, but my friend Jess told me that she went out and saw A Single Man over the weekend, and it reminded her of our new spring collection that is really coming along. The style of the film which is set in the 60's combines boho chic with preppy luxe,,love!

sledding season
the top of the slopes of Larz Anderson Park.
an LLBean toboggan..very classy!
the 3-man tube..shocka!
a new style foam board..not the most satisfying ride..quite uneven
the flying saucer..a clasic!
saturday afternoon i took my family sledding in winchester and it was a very successful fast day out there. i will admit after testing equiptment and the hill that Larz Anderson Park in Brookline far outclasses the park in Winchester..but the sleds we used this weekend totally rocked. in my humble opinion the best ride is on the 3 man tube..bouncy and slick..this baby moves and gets considerable air, but watch out.. the tube is very hard to control, and get too much air and you;'re on the cold hard turf! I also have to say the molded plastic toboggan is a great ride; quite fast and great for distance..but you must watch the bumps. the plastic is quite unforgiving and your spine will feel every ripple. Finally, for the classiest but slowest ride in town, check out LLBean's wooden toboggan...practically the whole family can fit comfortably on it's charming red cushion, and not a one will get stopped for a speeding fine! have fun out there!

valentino crush
The other night i watched the movie VALENTIONO THE LAST EMPEROR BY Matt Tyrnauer and it was a total treat. I think I was first made aware of the designer's genius when Julia Roberts walked the red carpet in that unforgettable black dress with the iconic "Y" neckline. But it was not until I watched this wonderful film that i got the full sense of the scope of Valentino's career. the man is a total design icon, a brilliant couturier, and someone whose time sadly enough has passed. The movie is a fly on the wall look at the designer's last year designing couture for the company. As viewers, we get to see how the clothes are made truly by hand, each dress representing hundreds of hours of labor. It is a poignant, touching, and fascinating watching a master at the height of his craft simultaneously realizing that he has reached the end of the road.
