old fashioned house party

last weekend in celebration of my dear friend chris' bday, we were treated to a wonderful weekend trip to islesboro in maine.
the hostess mallory marshall is a famed interior designer whose amazing style was storied in many shelter mags over the years..but i had never seen her house in dark harbor which in my mind has always been infamous due to it's association with the great sister parish.
let's just say mallory's house was way beyond fabulous(sorry sister). i wish i had more pix to share..because mallory has such classic effortless style..the kind that makes hanging out in a house with friends a total pleasure. and we all had a ball!
ms. marshall is a great proponent of the "little note" (in fact she has even written a book on the subject!) so i understand if i do write to her soon..i just may be able to go back..here's hoping!

Evan and Oliver Haselgrave

Leafing through the design issue of New York Magazine the other day, i came accross the article about the haselgrave brothers who live and work together in Brooklyn (what is it abolut brooklyn these days??). the brothers who came to the business ( called hOmE )organically over time, design and build restaurants, and other commercial spaces from scratch, by hand, using salvaged and recycled materials in ingenious new ways. this is such a crafters aesthetic and i am a sucker for it. so much love must go into each of their projects, with all the details that are required to fit their puzzles together.
i adore this wonderful recycliing of an old hammer as a door knob.
your kidding right? what is the shovel doing there? is this where they get water?..so beautiful!
and this cocoon is where they sleep. keep out girls!

Sixx Design on Bravo

i realize that cortney and robert novogratz are annoyingly picture perfect, but i am totally sold on their charm, talent, and wacky existence being aired for public consumption on bravo's new reality show 9 by design. i think i have mentioned that i love process, and design shows can be a lot of fun to watch as a designer, when you get to see the nitty gritty of putting a whole project together..throw 7 kids (!!) into the mix, and voila..great TV! Plus..i just l'adore their amazing taste, and ability to transform dogs into delights.

Tom Ford Movie Maker

i have always been a tom ford fan ever since he channelled the Halston look of studio 54 and changed Gucci forever, but my friend Jess told me that she went out and saw A Single Man over the weekend, and it reminded her of our new spring collection that is really coming along. The style of the film which is set in the 60's combines boho chic with preppy luxe,,love!
